However, FHM strikes me as a venue that is not necessarily devoted to quality literature; If they wish to take a stab at Playboy-quality lit, I would immediately ask why they don't make a monthly feature out of the deal. (I mean, they certainly have enough space in their magazine.) No, I feel that the lit here is a mere selling point. I feel that it's a one-time arrangement that falls far below certain noble ideals.

That said, it could be that they're merely testing the market to see if such literature would sell. If so, I understand this from a corporate point of view, and I'll probably pick up a copy soon.Seanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03300224368246428017noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8307761.post-77991003545702937442008-10-12T20:03:00.000+08:002008-10-12T20:03:00.000+08:00cool. sadly, the half-naked and naked (yes)ladies ...cool.

sadly, the half-naked and naked (yes)ladies are an intrinsic part of it -- it's genre + erotica. but i do hope you like that, too, since that antho was FHM's stab at playboy quality lit and even the newcomer girls were shot by top drawer lensmen.

all the best, dude.KARL De MESAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11696138773989605054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8307761.post-32580873020046703622008-10-08T00:51:00.000+08:002008-10-08T00:51:00.000+08:00Karl: Hi, Karl. It's been a while since I first posted this review, actually.

Unfortunately, time hasn't been kind to my assessment of the book and the publisher. Compared to the other venues out there, PAA has been left in the dust. Moreover, my own experiences with Psicom haven't quite left me a good impression of the editorial board. (I believe that somebody over there still has a manuscript of mine that they optioned for a nonexistent second volume.)

That said, I'll try to pick up the FHM anthology to see if your work reads better there. I have some reservations about FHM, mind you (because there's an obvious focus on the half-naked women, after all), but an anthology's an anthology, I suppose.Seanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03300224368246428017noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8307761.post-23832403947302604492008-10-05T01:24:00.000+08:002008-10-05T01:24:00.000+08:00hey sean, wow, this is a pretty thorough review. l...hey sean,

wow, this is a pretty thorough review. looks great! and salamat for this and the effort. ngayon ko lang nakita `to, though so my comments might be totally useless nwo that PAA is out of print.

i also talked to the editor before this came out and he says there was supposed to be an ediotirla intro and a table of contents. suddenly when he got the final copy of PAA it was msising. hmm, so much for clarity.

anyway, for "apocalypso" there are a few punctuation marks missing. the worst of all the mysteriously vanishing punctuations were the three "*" to indicate a time lapse and the transition of the narration between apocalypso's video report, his debriefing with Lt. Kid and the epilogue in his bedroom.

i hope that clears up what looks like sudden shifts in voice and a generally muddled narrative.

again, thanks for the review and thanks for buying PAA.

hope you purchase more of our stuff. if you liekd PAA try to check out the "FHM erotica anthology/ladies confessions special ed2" if you can since i included some of the same authors there.

cheers, dude.tzaddi salazarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03281321890677046183noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8307761.post-26227688301329680082007-02-10T14:12:00.000+08:002007-02-10T14:12:00.000+08:00Vlad: Despite what I've written up there, I must s...Vlad: Despite what I've written up there, I must say that I liked "Lunes" for its style and approach. I feel that the story was excellent enough for me to look forward to anything else you write. :)

I'd gladly submit something to further publications, but it might be better to produce an open call for submissions if Psicom's willing to work with that. I'll contact you via e-mail for further questions; Maybe we might be able to work something out.

(I liked it as well, only I feel that I'm too biased in its favor from a technical standpoint.)

I originally hated "Project: Overmind", but after a while I realized that I was judging it with the wrong sort of background. I found it to be a bad story under the rules I usually follow with regards to literary critique, but that would be like using Oscar standards to judge action movies. I don't think it'll grow on me too much, but I also think that it can't be judged from a critical point of view... and I'll thus leave it to other people to decide. :)Seanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03300224368246428017noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8307761.post-70014761500006990732007-01-20T18:30:00.000+08:002007-01-20T18:30:00.000+08:00Arrg. I've been putting off the review for this one for many months now.

Lunes: I thought it was good since, well, I'm pretty new with the stuff. (Honestly, I haven't read a lot of SF stuff, I'm more of a fantasy/horror reader)I even put it in me Year's Best Sf list. :D I just liked the way Mr. Gonzales handled the story.

Riverside: "dragging", very. I agree.Good story but it's very long for an SF story like itself. I mean, how long can the author explain the whole scenario. Maybe it was that long due to the fact that it uses two POVs as a storytelling device.

Apocalypso: For me, this is the most SFnal of all the stories simply because of the subject. It has faint traces of hard-SF ambitions but withraws further on. Yes, the switch in narration was disturbing, the story was redeemed by the whole premise. It needs a bit of work though.

Project:Overmind- (I don't think this was included in my Hon. Mentions list but well, I forgot about it heheh) Project Overmind is delicious in simplier terms. Anyone would probably enjoy the story since it is set in a Dan Brownish conventions (is that the one Mr. Flores making fun off? The super quick, ADD infested pace?)And yes, I was really baffled by the odd bits that strayed into the story. As I've told Banzai Cat, I thought that Project was just too fast and things quickly fell into pace. Kumbaga sa reality show, scripted. Heheh. Still okay nonetheless.

I suppose I won't be needing to make a review then? HehehDonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00658214781453971174noreply@blogger.com
